Husband jailed in Dhaka dentist murder case following confession of domestic dispute

A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered the husband of dentist Sara Roksana to be remanded to jail following the conclusion of a two-day police interrogation into her murder. Metropolitan Magistrate Kamal Uddin issued the order after investigators presented the suspect, Md. Sohel Rana, before the court, citing the need for continued detention as they verify information gathered during the initial questioning.
The 42-year-old dentist was found dead in her home in the Faydabad area of Dakshinkhan on July 30. According to the case file, the discovery was made by the couple’s 10-year-old daughter when she returned from school to find her mother lying on the bed with a pillow pressed over her face. After failing to elicit a response, the child contacted her father, who had left for work earlier that morning.
Initial reports from the scene suggested a potential burglary, as a window grille had been cut and family members reported that gold jewelry valued at approximately 2 million taka was missing. Police initially investigated the possibility that intruders had entered the apartment to commit robbery, prompting a forensic examination by the Criminal Investigation Department and an autopsy at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
The investigation took a significant turn when police detained Sohel Rana on August 2. During preliminary interrogation, Rana admitted to a history of marital discord and confessed that he harbored suspicions regarding his wife’s personal life. The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Habibur Rahman of Dakshinkhan Police Station, continues to process evidence collected during the initial two-day remand period as the investigation into the homicide proceeds.
