Hunter kills companion in accidental shooting during illegal deer hunt in Raozan

A 45-year-old man was killed in a tragic hunting accident Saturday afternoon after being struck by gunfire intended for a deer in the Haldia rubber plantation area of Raozan, Chittagong. The victim, identified as Jamir Uddin, a resident of South Khiram in the Khiram union of Fatikchhari, had entered the forest with his close friend, Jamal Uddin, to hunt.

According to local law enforcement, the incident occurred when Jamal Uddin fired a shot from his licensed firearm toward a deer. The bullet missed its target and struck Jamir Uddin, who was accompanying him. Following the shooting, the companions attempted to seek emergency medical assistance, transporting the victim to a doctor’s chamber at the Khiram Choumuhani market, where he was pronounced dead.

Jamal Uddin and the other individuals present at the scene fled immediately after the victim was declared dead, leaving the body behind. Fatikchhari police recovered the remains around 5:30 p.m. and subsequently transferred them to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Local forest officials noted that the area under the Sarta forest beat occasionally attracts deer, drawing hunters to the region. Forest officer Md. Rabiul Islam confirmed that he received reports from villagers corroborating that the victim was struck by a bullet fired by Jamal Uddin.

Fatikchhari Police Station officer-in-charge, Rabiul Alam Khan, confirmed that the firearm involved was legally owned by the suspect. While the shooting took place within the jurisdiction of the Raozan police, authorities have launched an investigation into the fatal accident. Police are currently working to locate Jamal Uddin, who remains at large.
