How to register at filling stations where ‘Fuel Pass’ service is available

The Department of Energy and Mineral Resources has launched a mobile app-based ‘Fuel Pass’ to ensure order and transparency in the distribution of fuel oil. Initially, this service has been launched at two filling stations in the capital. In this program which started experimentally (piloting), fuel collection system has been kept through QR code.

This information was confirmed in a circular sent by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Thursday (April 9).

According to the notification, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) under the Energy and Mineral Resources Department (EMRD) has piloted an app called ‘Fuel Pash’ based on QR code to make the nationwide fuel supply system more transparent and modern and to bring order to the filling stations.

The app is initially being piloted for use by motorcycle owners/drivers only at two filling stations in Dhaka (Trust in Tejgaon, Dhaka and Sonarbangla filling station in Asadgate). After successful piloting, the ‘Fuel Pash’ app will be gradually rolled out to all vehicles across the country.

It has also been said that due to the manual process in the fuel distribution system, various problems including delays are being created. Long queues of vehicles are seen at every filling station despite adequate supply of fuel. Again the same person comes more than once and stands in the queue collecting extra fuel which creates artificial shortage of fuel. To address these challenges, the proposed digital system will bring the distribution process fully under automation and real-time monitoring. The system will be linked to BRTA’s central database, thereby bringing the fuel distribution system under transparent monitoring. Even if citizens do not have a smartphone, they can register through the website and download and print the QR code in various formats.

The app called Fuel Pass must be installed on the mobile phone from the Google Play Store. After entering the app, verify the phone number, provide the registration number of the motorcycle and other information and complete the registration process with the password.
