Gunmen target local Krishak Dal leader in Gazipur Sreepur attack

A local leader of the Krishak Dal escaped an apparent targeted shooting in Sreepur, Gazipur, late Saturday night. While the victim remained physically unharmed, he was hospitalized due to severe shock and psychological distress following the incident.

The attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. at a private office situated near the RAK Ceramics factory along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Jaina Bazar. The victim, Md. Joj Mia, is the president of the Ward 5 Krishak Dal unit in Gazipur Union and is the son of Jonab Ali from Faridpur village.

According to witnesses, unidentified assailants fled the scene immediately after firing several rounds. The gunfire shattered two glass panels of the office building. Local residents rushed to the scene upon hearing the shots and subsequently transported Joj Mia to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Recounting the incident, Joj Mia stated that he was sitting in his office when three individuals arrived on a motorcycle. He noted that the assailants used a laser pointer to target him before firing two to three shots. Joj Mia stated that he was unable to identify the attackers, but the sudden assault left him in a state of extreme panic.

Officer-in-Charge of Sreepur Police Station, Mohammad Shahinur Alam, confirmed that law enforcement officials have inspected the scene. Police are currently investigating the motive behind the attack and attempting to identify the perpetrators. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident as of Sunday.
