‘Fuel pass’ is mandatory to take oil at the 7 pumps in Dhaka

The government has taken digital steps to ensure transparency in the oil distribution system in the capital. From Sunday (April 12), it has been made mandatory for motorcyclists to buy fuel using the QR code-based mobile app ‘Fuel Pash’ at 7 filling stations in Dhaka.

This digital system has been launched by Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC). Initially, the operation was started at two stations on an experimental basis, but as five more stations were added yesterday (April 11), motorcyclists can collect petrol and octane only through the app at a total of seven stations.

The filling stations in the capital where this service is available are -Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon area, Sonar Bangla and Talukdar Filling Station in Asadgate, Gulshan Service Station in Mohakhali, Meghna Model Pump in Shahbagh, Nikunj Model Service Center in Nikunj area and Khalek Service Station in Kalyanpur.

According to the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources, long queues of vehicles are forming at the pumps due to the conventional manual method of dispensing oil. Besides, the same person is repeatedly trying to create an artificial crisis with oil. To solve this problem, the ‘Fuel Pass’ app will be directly linked to BRTA’s central database. 

The energy department also said that customers can register through the website even if they do not have a smartphone and can download and print the QR code.

It has been said that through this system, filling station owners will be able to distribute fuel to customers only after entering through digital means. A customer can purchase fuel by scanning the QR code. Also you can see the predetermined allocation amount for him.

The energy department also said that the status of energy supply and distribution at the national level can be monitored immediately through a central dashboard. As a result of the implementation of this initiative, transparency in the energy supply system will increase, irregularities and wastage will be reduced and it will be possible to manage energy effectively during crisis.

To avail this facility, the customer has to download the ‘Fuel Pass’ app from the Google Play Store. Registration on the app requires providing phone number verification as well as vehicle registration number, national identity card, vehicle bluebook or smart card, driving license and passport size photograph.
