Customer dispute over product quality escalates to fatal stabbing of shopkeeper

A shopkeeper was fatally stabbed in Bangladesh’s Chitalmari Upazila on Thursday morning following an argument over the quality of a product, according to local residents and police.

The victim, identified as Mujahid Mollah, 42, was attacked at his shop in Hizla village by a customer, Bayezid Izdar, 32. Mollah, a local leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, reportedly died after Izdar, a day laborer, allegedly struck him in the neck with a sickle following a dispute over a bottle of juice.

According to witnesses, the altercation began when Izdar complained the juice was not good. Mollah, who was sitting in his shop adjacent to his home, reportedly tasted the juice and stated it was fine, escalating the disagreement into violence.

Izdar was apprehended by villagers shortly after the incident and handed over to the police. He is currently receiving medical treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital for injuries sustained during the apprehension.

Nazzrul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Chitalmari Police Station, confirmed that police visited the scene and that a case is being prepared. Mollah was pronounced dead at the Chitalmari Upazila Health Complex, and his body has been sent for an autopsy.
