Four Held in SSC Exam Question Fraud

Four individuals have been arrested by Bangladesh’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit for allegedly defrauding students by promising them leaked examination questions for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams. The arrests, announced Saturday, April 27, follow an investigation into an online syndicate that exploited the widespread concern over exam question leaks.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Sifat Ahmed, Mohammad Salman, Mezbaul Alam, and Mohammad Mohiuzzaman. CTTC Joint Commissioner Munshi Shahabuddin revealed details of the operation during a press conference at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre on Minto Road in the capital.

The investigation began on April 20 when the CTTC’s online and intelligence analysis division identified a suspicious Facebook page during routine social media monitoring. Further analysis of the page’s activities led to an operation in Tajpur, Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka, where Sifat Ahmed was apprehended at approximately 8:30 PM on the same day.

Based on information provided by Ahmed, authorities then conducted further raids. Mohammad Salman was arrested on April 23 in Dhunat, Bogura, while Mezbaul Alam was apprehended on the same day in Dadanpur Malipara, Nawabganj Upazila, Dinajpur. The final arrest, that of Mohammad Mohiuzzaman, occurred on April 24 during a raid in Naogaon Union, Tarash, Sirajganj, based on intelligence from the previously detained suspects.

The CTTC confirmed that a case has been filed, and all four individuals are currently being interrogated under remand. The agency noted that the ring had been operating for an extended period, extorting money from students and the public with false promises of leaked exam papers, none of which ever matched the actual examination questions.
