Formation of 8 member board for measles treatment in Rajshahi Medical

The number of patients with measles and its symptoms is increasing in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Finally a medical board has been formed to treat this infectious disease. This board of eight members was formed yesterday Thursday.

According to an order issued by the director of the hospital, Brigadier General PKM Masood ul Islam, the number of patients suffering from measles in the hospital is gradually increasing. This medical board consisting of expert doctors was formed to ensure good treatment of critical patients with post-measles complications. Board members will perform field work as required.

Professor Shahida Yasmin, head of the department of children’s department of the hospital, has been made the president of this medical board. The other seven members are Professor Azizul Haque, MD, Department of Medicine, Professor Manzoor Elahi, Head of the Department of Neuro Medicine, Professor Ahmad Jainuddin Sani, Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, Professor Sharmina Aftab, Head of the Virology Department of Rajshahi Medical College, Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Head of the Intensive Care Center (ICU) Unit of the hospital, Mizanur Rahman, Head of the Department of Microbiology and Cardiology Jr. Consultant Rakibul Hasan Rased.

Hospital spokesperson Shankar Kumar Biswas said, “This is an internal operation of the hospital. Such medical board is constituted by the chief or specialist doctors of all departments to ensure good treatment of patients. This is also such a board.

Measles infection spread in Rajshahi region from the second week of last March. Since then patients keep coming to the hospital. Although the disease is contagious, in the beginning, children with measles symptoms were treated in the children’s ward of the hospital, piled together with other children. Finally, at the end of March, the isolation ward was set up.

So far 51 children have died in the hospital with measles and measles symptoms. One child died in the last 24 hours from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning. During this period, 11 new children were admitted with measles symptoms. And 29 children got clearance due to being healthy. So far 613 children have been admitted since the outbreak. Currently 145 children are under treatment.
