Flooding Strands Cox Bazar-Bound Tourist Express in Chittagong

A passenger train bound for Cox’s Bazar has been stranded in Chittagong’s Sholashahar area since Tuesday afternoon, leaving approximately 1,000 travelers halted as heavy rainfall submerged segments of the rail line. The Tourist Express, which departed from Dhaka’s Kamalapur station at 6:15 a.m., was forced to stop shortly after passing through the Sholashahar station at 12:35 p.m.
Local railway officials confirmed that persistent, torrential rain caused water to accumulate on the tracks, rendering the route impassable for the train. According to Nezam Uddin, station master at the nearby Janalihat station, the line remained clear during the early morning hours, allowing the Cox’s Bazar-bound Probhat Express to pass through without incident before the weather conditions deteriorated.

As of 3:15 p.m., the train remained stationary, missing its scheduled arrival time in Cox’s Bazar by several hours. Railway authorities have not provided a definitive timeline for when operations will resume, noting that the train cannot proceed until the water levels recede sufficiently to ensure the safety of the tracks. Efforts are ongoing to monitor the situation, though passengers remain in limbo as the rail network faces the consequences of the severe downpour.
