There are militants in the country and the government will work to bring down the militancy to zero, said Prime Minister’s Information Adviser Zaheed Ur Rahman. He said this in response to a journalist’s question while talking about the progress of various activities of the government at the secretariat today.

A journalist asked, earlier the fear of terrorist attacks on important installations was mentioned. Two days ago, it was said that there is a threat of attack on important installations. And yesterday it was announced that the security around the airports will be strengthened. During the interim government we have seen, important people in the government have said at various times that there are no real militants in the country. Now the question is – does the government really think that there is no militant activity in the country? How much information does the government have?

In response to this question, Zaheed Ur Rahman said, ‘The first thing is, how much information the government has, it cannot be said. This is a sensitive information, this information will be kept confidential. But the information given by the government is a fact. There are militants in Bangladesh.

Adviser to the Prime Minister, Zaheed Ur Rahman, thinks that both the comments made during the Awami League government and the comments made during the interim government about militant activities in the country are ‘extreme’. Explaining this, he said that the extent to which the militant problem was shown during the Awami League government was used by them as a ‘narrative’ to stay in power, that there are militants in Bangladesh and that the militants will take over everything. So no need to see if they elected or not, keep their power. From that place, militancy during that government was exaggerated. During the later government, during the interim, some tried to talk that there are no militants in Bangladesh. This is another extreme. This is also wrong,’ he said.

Zaheed Ur Rahman said, ‘There was militancy-militancy at one stage in Bangladesh, it is there. We actually want to combat that. Now this warning means, it poses a bit of a risk. Because, during the one and a half year interim government, we noticed that people of this tendency were more organized or came publicly or came openly. That’s a bit of impact. We want to say, this government will combat them. I want to tell people that this risk is not something to be afraid of. But the old saying goes that if we don’t acknowledge a crisis or disease, it won’t be treated. We will try to bring it down to zero.”
