Two construction workers die after fall from building in Mymensingh

Two construction workers died on Wednesday after falling from a building under construction in Mymensingh city. The accident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m. at a site located on College Road, according to local authorities.

The victims have been identified as 30-year-old Masud Miah, a native of Jhenaidah, and 24-year-old Siam Miah from Chapainawabganj. Both men had reportedly begun working at the site only 15 days ago.

According to a site security guard, Abdul Haque, the workers had returned to the upper levels of the structure following their lunch break when the scaffolding they were using collapsed. Both men plunged from the eighth floor of the under-construction ten-story building, known as Enayet Hossain Chowdhury Tower. Emergency responders transported the pair to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where attending physicians declared them dead upon arrival.

The building is being developed by a couple identified as Belal Uddin, a lecturer at Netrokona Medical College, and Dipsha Chowdhury, a medical officer at the Mymensingh Sadar Upazila Health Complex. The project is situated on approximately 8.5 decimals of land inherited by Dr. Chowdhury.

Addressing the incident, building owner Belal Uddin stated that the construction contract had been outsourced to a contractor named Rafiqul Islam, who is managing the day-to-day site operations. He expressed condolences for the loss of life.

Officer-in-Charge of the Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station, Mohammad Shibirul Islam, confirmed that the bodies have been transferred to the morgue at Mymensingh Medical College for post-mortem examinations. Authorities have notified the families of the deceased and are currently preparing to initiate legal proceedings regarding the incident.
