Faridpur Volunteer Party Committee Dissolved Following Murder Charge Against Leader

The Faridpur district unit of the Swechchhasebak Dal has dissolved the organization’s Bhanga upazila committee following the involvement of a senior local official in a deadly clash. The move comes shortly after Sajeeb Matubbar, the former member secretary of the Bhanga upazila committee, was named as the primary accused in a murder case filed earlier this week.

The legal action stems from a violent confrontation on Tuesday evening between residents of the Hasamdia and Kapuria Sadardi neighborhoods in the Bhanga bus stand area. The clash, fueled by long-standing territorial disputes, resulted in the death of 20-year-old Suman Sheikh, who was fatally shot. Following the incident, the victim’s father, Milon Sheikh, filed a formal complaint at the Bhanga police station, naming 11 individuals and identifying approximately 35 unidentified suspects.

While police have already arrested 17 people in connection with the killing, Matubbar remains at large. Efforts to reach the accused for comment were unsuccessful as his mobile phone remained unreachable.

The dissolution of the local committee was formalized in a press release issued late Friday, signed by Faridpur district Swechchhasebak Dal convener Mozammel Hossain and member secretary Shahriar Shithil. The decision was announced shortly after Faridpur-4 Member of Parliament Md. Shidul Islam visited the victim’s family to offer condolences. During his visit, the lawmaker emphasized that the legal proceedings would follow an independent course without political interference and insisted that internal party disciplinary action would be taken against those involved.

Shahriar Shithil confirmed the dissolution, noting that the committee had faced various allegations prior to the murder. He explained that the leadership took the step to ensure a neutral investigation and to prevent any potential political influence from obstructing the judicial process.
