13 years ago the murder of Narayanganj’s talented teenager Tanveer Muhammad Takki, the recovery of the hanging body of college student Mosarat Jahan Munia from the Gulshan flat of the capital in 2021 and the brutal killing of the child in Pallavi. This culture of impunity of rape and murder in the country after years is testing the limits of human endurance.
Economist Anu Muhammad said these things in a protest rally in front of Jatiya Sangsad Bhavan on Manik Mia Avenue in the capital today.

Anti-Terrorism Tukki Manch organized this rally to protest the non-trial of the murder of talented teenager Tanveer Muhammad Tukki even after 13 years. Poets, writers, artists and eminent citizens participated in the rally.
On March 6, 2013, Tukki went missing after leaving his home on Shaista Khan Road in Narayanganj. Two days later, on March 8, the police recovered the body of Takki from the Kumudini canal of Shitalakshya river. On November 12 of that year, Ajmeri Osman’s associate Sultan Shaukat (Bhramar) and on November 24, 2024, Kajal Howladar said in a confessional statement under section 164 in the court that Tukki was killed after being kidnapped under the leadership of Ajmeri Osman.

On March 5, 2014, the investigative agency RAB said in a press conference that 11 people killed Tukki in their torture cell on the instructions of the Osman family of Narayanganj. Soon they will submit the charge sheet to the court. But that charge sheet has not been submitted till date.
Anu Muhammad said in the rally, ‘Where have we stopped? How far can cruelty and brutality go? How much can our digestion be? It’s like testing how much our endurance can be.’ He demanded the trial of the Takhki murder as well as the various rapes and murders that happened in recent times.
Anu Muhammad alleged that the Tukki murder trial was stopped due to the intervention of the former prime minister and it is still hanging due to the indifference of the interim government. He said, “Just like a carbon copy, the court has gone backwards during Hasina’s tenure, it has also gone backwards during the interim and current governments.”
Anu Muhammad also pointed out that Muniya’s incident was allowed to pass without action against Bashundhara Group MD (Sayem Sobhan Anveer) and Pallavi’s callousness towards the child shows the extreme cruelty of the society.
At this time, this educationist also expressed concern about the abuse of children and women in religious educational institutions. He urged to prevent brutality in religious institutions and stand by the oppressed.
Samina Lutfa, professor of Sociology Department of Dhaka University, referred to the non-trial of Tukki’s murder in 13 long years as a ‘horrible reality’. He said that due to lack of rule of law and safe environment in the country, children and teenagers are being killed one after another.
Expressing anger against the culture of impunity, Ilira Dewan, a human rights activist and writer, demanded justice for the murder of Tukki. Citing examples of long-standing injustice in the mountains and plains, he said, even if justice is uncertain, the movement should be continued for the sake of the next generation. The administration will not wake up if it does not raise its voice against injustice.
Rafiur Rabbi, the convener of Tukki Manch, his father and the convener of Terrorism Nirmul Tukki Manch, pointed out that Tukki’s murder has not been prosecuted for 13 years as a symbol of the country’s fragile judicial system. He said that RAB identified the Osman family as murderers after completing the investigation, but due to the lack of political will at the top level of the previous Awami League government, the trial process of Tukki’s murder was stopped.
Rafiur Rabbi expressed concern over the torture and rape of children, adolescents and women across the country. He called for the formation of a non-sectarian, humane and safe state according to the dream of the liberation war and the 24th mass uprising.
Artist Arup Rahi, convenor of Democratic Cultural Unity Jamshed Anwar and others also spoke at the protest rally.
Artists Warda Ashraf, Beethi Ghosh, artists of Bangladesh Udichi artist group and many others performed songs seeking justice for the murder of Tukki. Recited by Ziaul Islam, Arif Anwar and others.
His father Rafiur Rabbi, Feroz Ahmed, Kamruzzaman Roman, Zahid Mostafa, Masudul Haque, Ashok Karmakar etc. painted in protest of the 13-year-old injustice of Tukki killing.
Battala performed a street drama called ‘Raktjaba’. Apart from this, oriental theater troupe and artist Amal Akash performed to demand justice for Tukki murder.
Kavi Halim Azad, Member Secretary of Anti-Terrorism Tukki Manch thanked for participating in this event. Rebecca Neela, the head of Samgeet Sanskari Prangan, moderated. Among others present was Takki’s younger brother Rakib Muhammad Saki.
