EU ambassador meeting with opposition leader Shafiqur Rahman

European Union (EU) Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller and Political First Secretary Sebastian Rieger Brown paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Amir Shafiqur Rahman, the opposition leader of the Jatiya Sangsad. During this time, various issues related to the mutual interest of Bangladesh and the European Union were discussed between them.
This was informed in a press release of the Parliament Secretariat.
In this meeting at the office of the leader of the opposition in the Sangsad Bhavan, the issue of making democracy more meaningful after the National Parliament election, the ongoing reform program and the implementation of the referendum verdict were given importance. Apart from this, importance was also laid on taking necessary steps to make the upcoming local government elections fair, free and acceptable.
Both sides expressed hope that the existing relations, development cooperation and progress between Bangladesh and the European Union will be strengthened in the future.
