Dump truck collision leaves one dead and three injured in Coxs Bazar

A 40-year-old woman was killed and three others were seriously injured on Thursday evening following a collision between a dump truck and an electric rickshaw near the new bridge in the Khurushkul area of Cox’s Bazar.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjida Akter, a resident of the Keora building in the Khurushkul project area. The victims were traveling to a private hospital in Cox’s Bazar for medical treatment when the collision occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. According to family members, the impact of the crash sent the rickshaw flying a significant distance.

The injured, identified as Yarun Begum, her 14-year-old daughter Parul Begum, and the 16-year-old rickshaw driver, Mohammad Arafat, were transported to the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for emergency treatment. Yarun Begum sustained severe injuries, including a broken pelvis and leg, while the driver suffered a broken leg and the younger passenger sustained multiple trauma injuries.

CCTV footage of the incident, which has circulated on social media, shows the dump truck attempting to overtake a motorcycle at high speed before veering into the path of the oncoming rickshaw. The collision resulted in an immediate impact that proved fatal for Sanjida Akter.

Officer-in-Charge of the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, Sheikh Mohammad Ali, confirmed the incident and stated that police have seized the dump truck. The driver fled the scene immediately following the collision, and authorities have launched an investigation to locate him.
