Dipen Dewan, who recently stepped down from his position as the Minister of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, issued a public appeal on Wednesday night urging residents of the region to remain calm and maintain social harmony following his resignation.
In a statement posted to his official social media channels, Dewan acknowledged the widespread reactions, concerns, and emotions expressed by political colleagues, well-wishers, and citizens across the Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban districts. Addressing the diverse ethnic and linguistic communities of the region with inclusive greetings, he called for patience and restraint. He urged the public to reject provocations and misunderstandings, emphasizing that the development, stability, and peace of the Chittagong Hill Tracts are collective responsibilities that transcend communal divisions.

Beyond addressing the immediate regional climate, Dewan used the statement to reaffirm his long-standing commitment to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Reflecting on his family legacy, he noted that his father served as an advisor to the late President Ziaur Rahman, a foundational influence on his own political career.
He underscored his dedication to the party under the leadership of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, stating that the BNP serves as his definitive ideological home. Addressing the current political trajectory, Dewan expressed his unwavering faith in the leadership of acting chairman Tarique Rahman. He concluded by reiterating his commitment to contributing to the construction of a “new Bangladesh” under the party’s ongoing vision.
