Dhaka Volunteer Party leader stabbed to death in Mouchak area

A former leader of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchasebak Dal, Billal Hossain Talukdar, was fatally stabbed on Monday night in the Mouchak area of the capital, prompting immediate disciplinary action within the organization.

The 45-year-old former convener of the organization’s Ramna unit was attacked around 7:45 p.m. in an alley near the Anarkali Market. Despite being rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment, physicians declared him dead at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Eyewitnesses and family members, including the victim’s nephew Mohammad Jubayer Hossain, stated that the altercation began when a group of individuals allegedly began extorting local eateries. When Talukdar’s nephew, Mobarak Hossain Akash, attempted to intervene, he was detained by the group. Talukdar arrived at the scene to mediate the dispute, but a heated argument broke out between him and Didarul Islam Babu, the convener of the Ramna unit of Jatiyatabadi Jubodal. According to witnesses, the confrontation escalated into physical violence, during which Talukdar was stabbed in the chest.

In the wake of the killing, the central committee of the Jatiyatabadi Jubodal took decisive disciplinary action. The organization expelled Didarul Islam Babu and announced the dissolution of the Ramna unit committee.

Police officials have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators. Sheikh Zahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of the Ramna Division, confirmed that law enforcement is actively reviewing the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and has vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
