Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakrabarty, managing director of Universal Medical College Hospital, has been honored with the “Global Health Award 2026” in recognition of his significant contributions to medical education, hospital management, and the broader healthcare sector.

The award was presented by State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasir Khan Chowdhury during a ceremony held Wednesday at a hotel in the capital. The event was presided over by Enamul Haque Enam, managing editor of *Arthakantha* and *Business America*. The ceremony was jointly organized by NRB World, *Business America* magazine, and the weekly *Arthakantha*.

According to a press release issued by Universal Medical College Hospital, Dr. Chakrabarty has spent over two decades advocating for improved healthcare quality, ethical medical practices, and the reform of national health policies. His tenure began at the former Ayesha Memorial Specialized Hospital in 2004, which he successfully transitioned into Universal Medical College Hospital in 2013. Under his continued leadership, the institution has expanded into a comprehensive healthcare network that includes Universal Cardiac Hospital, Universal Medical College, and Universal Nursing College.

Beyond his institutional leadership, Dr. Chakrabarty remains an active participant in professional and civic life, maintaining roles within the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) and the Bangladesh Private Medical College Association (BPMCA). He is also frequently involved in various social and cultural initiatives.

The awards ceremony also featured a seminar focused on the role of non-resident Bangladeshi scientists in advancing biotechnology and biosimilar drugs within the nation’s pharmaceutical industry. During the proceedings, officials unveiled a commemorative book titled “100 Healthcare Titans of Bangladesh,” which highlights key figures in the sector. The event was attended by a broad cross-section of professionals, including scientists, policymakers, corporate representatives, and members of the media.
