Dhaka University Establishes Fazlul Haque Student Film Production Support Trust Fund

A new trust fund, titled the Fazlul Haque Student Film Production Support Trust Fund, has been established at the Department of Television, Film and Photography of the University of Dhaka. The fund was inaugurated following a donation from Channel i Managing Director Faridur Reza Sagar, who handed over a cheque to University Vice-Chancellor Professor A.B.M. Obaidul Islam.
The University of Dhaka’s public relations department confirmed the development through an official announcement on Tuesday. According to the notice, the proceeds from this trust fund will be utilized to provide annual grants to students of the department to support their graduate film productions.
The cheque handover ceremony was chaired by University Treasurer Professor M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. Attendees included the department’s Chairman Sayeed Shahzada Al Karim, Channel i Executive Director (Administration) Muhammad Masud, culinary expert Keka Ferdousi, film researcher and journalist Rezanur Rahman, Mir Masrur Zaman, Abdullah Ziad, and faculty members from the department.
Vice-Chancellor A.B.M. Obaidul Islam expressed his gratitude to the donor’s family for establishing the fund, noting that it would play a vital role in the department’s educational and research development. During his address, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized the need to strengthen ties between the university, its alumni, and the industry. He further appealed to Channel i authorities to facilitate internship opportunities for students of the department.
The trust fund honors the late Fazlul Haque, a distinguished film director, producer, and journalist. A veteran of the 1971 Liberation War, Haque contributed scripts to the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra. He passed away in 1990 at the age of 60. He and his wife, Rabeya Khatun, left behind four children who have each achieved professional success in their respective fields.
