Dhaka Sees Brief Morning Rain as Met Office Predicts Continued Heatwave

Dhaka residents experienced a brief spell of early morning rain on Tuesday, as passing clouds gave way to bright sunshine across the capital. While light showers lingered in isolated pockets as of 8:30 a.m., meteorologists expect the remainder of the day to stay largely clear and sunny, with little prospect for further precipitation in the city.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecasts localized rain across the Rangpur, Sylhet, and Chittagong divisions, as well as the eastern fringes of the Dhaka division, specifically targeting Narayanganj and Narsingdi. Conversely, large swaths of the country, particularly the Khulna and Rajshahi divisions, are expected to remain dry, leading to an intensification of heat. Exceptions in the north include parts of the Bogura and Naogaon districts, where light showers remain possible.

Meteorologist A.K.M. Nazmul Islam attributed the erratic weather to an atmospheric conflict between the newly arrived monsoon winds and an active western low-pressure system. This seasonal transition frequently results in short-lived, localized downpours followed by rapidly clearing skies and rising temperatures, leaving little lasting relief from the humidity.
While the monsoon season has officially arrived, its onset is roughly one week behind the historical average. Experts anticipate that the monsoon will take time to establish itself fully across the country, with total nationwide coverage not expected until at least the middle of the month. As the primary driver of Bangladesh’s rainfall, the delayed expansion of these winds continues to dictate the country’s current volatile weather patterns.
