Dhaka Raids Net 893 Arrests in One Week

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have apprehended 101 individuals across the capital in the past 24 hours, intensifying a special, week-long operation targeting various criminal enterprises. These arrests, made between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning, bring the total number of detainees to 893 since the crackdown commenced on May 1.

During the most recent 24-hour period, law enforcement officials arrested 68 suspects within the DMP’s Tejgaon division and an additional 33 from the Mirpur division. Within Tejgaon, specific police station areas saw notable arrests, including seven in Tejgaon, 12 in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, 23 in Mohammadpur, six in Adabor, seven in Tejgaon Industrial Area, and 13 in Hatirjheel.

The special operation, initiated on May 1, specifically targets individuals identified as extortionists, armed terrorists, drug traffickers, and members of online gambling rings, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police sources. The crackdown began by identifying and pursuing individuals on lists of suspected criminals.

This concerted effort is part of a nationwide initiative to bolster law and order across the country. The DMP aims to eradicate criminal elements, provide a sense of relief to city dwellers, and ensure the overall safety and security of the capital.
