Dhaka Metropolitan Police bans protests and public gatherings around Parliament ahead of 13th parliamentary session

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed a comprehensive ban on all forms of public gatherings, rallies, processions, and demonstrations in and around the National Parliament building ahead of the third session of the 13th National Parliament. The directive also prohibits the carrying of weapons, explosives, and other harmful substances within the specified areas to ensure security and public order.
The prohibitory order, signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmad on Monday, takes effect at midnight on Wednesday and will remain in force until the conclusion of the parliamentary session, which is scheduled to commence this Thursday.
The restricted zone encompasses a significant portion of the capital’s administrative and high-traffic corridors. The affected area extends from the Mohakhali crossing on Mymensingh Road through the Old Airport to the Banglamotor crossing. The ban also covers the stretch from the western end of the Banglamotor Link Road to the SAARC Fountain at Hotel Sonargaon, and from the eastern end of Panthapath through the Green Road intersection to Farmgate.
Furthermore, the restriction applies to the area spanning from the Shyamoli crossing on Mirpur Road to the intersection of Road 16 (formerly Road 27) in Dhanmondi. Other restricted zones include the area from the Rokeya Sarani intersection through the old 9th Division (Aircraft) crossing to the Bijoy Sarani Tourism crossing, as well as the corridor from the eastern end of Indira Road to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue.
All roads, lanes, and alleyways within the designated perimeter of the National Parliament complex are also subject to this security mandate. Authorities have stated that these measures are essential to maintain peace and security during the parliamentary proceedings.
