Dhaka Braces for Increased Nighttime Rain After Light Showers

Isolated rainfall brought a marginal drop in temperature to parts of Dhaka on Thursday morning, offering residents a brief respite following a recent heatwave and several days of intense heat. Meteorologists forecast a higher likelihood of more substantial rain across the capital later tonight.
The light morning showers, reported in areas including Mohammadpur, Shyamoli, and Agargaon, came after Dhaka experienced its first heatwave of the current month on Wednesday. The capital and various other regions of the country have been grappling with sweltering conditions for the past three to four days, with April also recording a few heatwave events.

The sky over Dhaka remained cloudy as of early afternoon. According to Mohammad Omar Faruk, a meteorologist with the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, who spoke to *Prothom Alo*, the rain contributed to a slight dip in the city’s temperature. He noted that the maximum temperature in Dhaka was 32.8 degrees Celsius at noon on Wednesday, while at the same time on Thursday, it stood at 32 degrees Celsius.
Faruk indicated that current conditions might not reach heatwave status, which is typically declared when temperatures hit 36 degrees Celsius. While the morning rain in the capital was scattered and not significant in volume, he reiterated the anticipation of heavier rainfall tonight. Additionally, rain has been recorded in many areas of the Rangpur division and some parts of the Rajshahi division today.
