Deep Depression Over Bay Brings Rain Threat Across Bangladesh

A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has moved inland toward the Indian states of West Bengal and Odisha, prompting weather officials to maintain a cautionary alert across Bangladesh. While the system is shifting away, its lingering influence is expected to bring intermittent rainfall and overcast skies to large portions of the country for at least the next 48 hours.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, a local cautionary signal of number 3 remains in effect for all four maritime ports. Meteorologist Afroza Sultana noted that Dhaka residents should expect heavy cloud cover throughout Tuesday, with a significant probability of precipitation beginning in the afternoon. The forecast indicates that rainfall will be scattered across the Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, Rangpur, and Sylhet divisions, with the highest accumulations expected in coastal regions.

The shift in weather patterns has already begun to lower temperatures. In Dhaka, the maximum recorded temperature fell to 33.5 degrees Celsius on Monday, down from 35.5 degrees Celsius the previous day. While the current weather system is expected to persist through the end of the month, forecasters do not anticipate the same intensity of rainfall that triggered severe flooding and landslides earlier this month.
That earlier deluge, which caused widespread crop damage and resulted in at least 59 deaths across nine districts, led to critical waterlogging in major urban centers like Dhaka and Chattogram. While officials warn that some areas may still experience heavy downpours in the coming days, the overall intensity is projected to wane by the first day of the next month.
