Decision to set up five police checkposts in Jahangirnagar

To strengthen security at Jahangirnagar University, the university administration has announced the establishment of five police checkposts on the robbery-prone Dhaka-Aricha highway adjacent to the university. This information was informed in a press release signed by Mohammad Mohiuddin, Acting Director of Public Relations Office of the University last Thursday night. The authorities took this decision in view of the demands of the students after the attempted rape of a student of the university last Tuesday night.
According to the notification, a separate meeting was held with Jaksu leaders, general students and representatives of various student organizations under the chairmanship of Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan to deal with the situation. In these meetings, Jaksu leaders raised seven points and ordinary students raised six points. University administration takes several decisions in view of students’ demands. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies are continuing to identify the accused, file a case and arrest him. Efforts are on to quickly nab the culprit.
In the notification, the Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan said that the university administration is in constant contact with the police at the highest level. The Vice-Chancellor hopes that the culprits will be arrested soon. In order to ensure the security of the university campus, the construction of the boundary wall around the university will be completed. 5 police check posts will be set up from the main gate to the marginal gate of the university along the Dhaka-Aricha highway and effective measures will be taken to control the entry of outsiders into the campus.
Earlier, a man tried to rape a female student by dragging her from the road adjacent to the university’s abandoned Fazilatunnecha Hall around 11 pm on Tuesday. Later on Wednesday afternoon, the university administration filed a case against an unidentified person at the Ashulia police station.
