Death Toll Among Bangladeshi Pilgrims Reaches 41 in Saudi Arabia

Two more Bangladeshi pilgrims have died while performing the Hajj in Saudi Arabia, bringing the total number of fatalities among the country’s contingent to 41 this year. The Ministry of Religious Affairs confirmed the deaths on Sunday, as the annual pilgrimage draws to a close.
The victims were identified as Md. Abdul Majid, a resident of Naogaon, and Md. Shahjahan Ali, from Dhaka’s Khilgaon area. Officials stated that Majid passed away in Medina, while Ali died in Mecca.

According to data from the ministry’s Hajj management portal, the 41 deceased pilgrims include 27 men and 14 women. The geographical distribution of these deaths shows that 30 pilgrims died in Mecca, while the remaining 11 died in Medina.
As the Hajj concludes, the return journey for thousands of pilgrims is well underway. Ministry records indicate that 11,613 pilgrims have already arrived back in Bangladesh since the return flight operations commenced on May 30. These return flights are scheduled to continue through June 30.

This year, approximately 78,500 Bangladeshis traveled to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage. Of those, 4,565 performed the Hajj under government management, while 73,935 traveled through private agencies. The initial departure phase began on April 18 and concluded on May 21, ahead of the Hajj rituals, which took place on May 26.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reported that more than 1.5 million pilgrims from across the globe gathered in the kingdom to participate in this year’s Hajj.
