Couple dies in apparent electrocution accident in Kurigram

A tragic domestic accident claimed the lives of an elderly couple in the Baldipara area of Ulipur, Kurigram, on Wednesday afternoon. The victims, 68-year-old Abu Sayeed and his 60-year-old wife, Rabeya Begum, were pronounced dead at the scene after suffering a fatal electric shock inside their home.
According to local accounts and police reports, the incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. when Abu Sayeed attempted to operate an electrical switchboard. He was immediately struck by a high-voltage current, prompting his wife, Rabeya Begum, to rush to his aid. She was subsequently electrocuted while attempting to pull her husband from the live current.
Authorities were alerted shortly thereafter, and a team from the Ulipur Police Station arrived at the residence to recover the bodies. Officer-in-Charge Sayeed Ibn Siddique confirmed the fatalities and stated that police are currently conducting a preliminary inquest. Legal proceedings are underway to address the circumstances of the incident, which has left the local community in shock.
