College Student Hospitalized Following Targeted Knife Attack in Dhaka

An 18-year-old college student was left hospitalized Sunday evening after being attacked with a sharp weapon in the Tilpapara area of Khilgaon, Dhaka. Sourav Shahriar, an eleventh-grade student at Khilgaon Model College, was reportedly targeted while sitting with friends near a local pharmacy at approximately 6:30 p.m.

According to the victim’s father, Shuvo Mahmud, the assault was carried out by three local youths identified as Arafat, Fatin, and Soleman. The assailants allegedly approached the group without provocation and struck Shahriar on his left shoulder with a bladed weapon before fleeing the scene. Witnesses indicated that the attackers also attempted to seize the victim’s mobile phone during the confrontation, though they were unsuccessful.

Shahriar was initially transported to Mugda General Hospital for emergency treatment before being transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at approximately 9:30 p.m. for further care. His father stated that his son had no prior personal disputes with the attackers, describing them as local troublemakers.

Inspector Md. Faruk of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost confirmed that the victim is currently receiving medical attention in the emergency department. Authorities have been notified of the incident, and an investigation into the motive behind the attack is underway.
