Claims of Sylhet Deputy Commissioners Reinstatement Are False

Social media claims suggesting that Md. Sarwar Alam has been reinstated as the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sylhet following his recent withdrawal are false. Despite widespread circulation on Facebook, where users have shared posts celebrating his alleged return, official government records and recent administrative actions confirm that his transfer remains in effect.

The confusion appears to stem from the deliberate misinterpretation of a document circulating online. Several social media accounts have shared an obscured, partial image of an official notice alongside a photograph of Sarwar Alam. Investigations reveal that this document is merely a cropped screenshot of the original June 21 notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, which formally ordered his withdrawal from the district. The notice, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Jeti Pru, confirms the initial transfer rather than any subsequent reversal.

Evidence of Sarwar Alam’s departure remains clear and well-documented. Following the ministry’s directive, the official handed over his responsibilities and departed for Dhaka on June 23. In a farewell post shared on his personal Facebook account that same day, he addressed the residents of Sylhet, expressing gratitude for their support. Currently, Additional District Magistrate Pinky Saha is serving as the acting Deputy Commissioner, fulfilling the administrative duties until a permanent successor is appointed.

Neither the Ministry of Public Administration’s official website nor any reputable news organization has reported a reversal of the withdrawal order. The claims circulating across dozens of Facebook pages and groups lack corroborating evidence or credible sources. By propagating outdated documents out of context, these social media posts have created a false narrative surrounding the administrative status of the former official.
