Case of attack on UNO at Panchagarh filling station, accused 325

A case has been registered in connection with the attack on the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) while inspecting fuel supply at a filling station in Panchagarh’s Debiganj. Peshkar Sirajul Islam of Debiganj upazila administration filed the case in Debiganj police station last Saturday night. In this, 25 people have been named and 300 other unknown persons have been accused. The case has been accused of obstructing government work, beating up government employees and causing chaos.

Before this, UNO Sabuj Kumar Basak of Debiganj was attacked in front of Jannatul Mawa filling station in Vaulaganj area of ​​Debiganj upazila at around 12:30 noon yesterday. Ansar member Tayabul Islam was seriously injured while trying to stop the attackers.

Fuel oil was supposed to be supplied to three filling stations of the upazila from yesterday morning. UNO Sabuj Kumar Basak went out to inspect these filling stations in the afternoon. At that time he got news that it is not possible to start distribution of fuel oil due to chaos at Jannatul Mawa filling station in Bhaulaganj. Later he went there and saw a long queue of motorcycles. Some were demanding fuel without fuel card. UNO asks those who do not have a fuel card to go to the end of the queue. Some even leave.

A motorcyclist who was there at that time was fined Tk 500 as he did not have any documents including fuel card, driving license. Within a few moments, a group of people came from a distance like a procession and attacked the UNO. An Ansar member named Tayabul Islam, who was in charge of UNO’s security, was injured while trying to prevent the attack.

A few local people rescued UNO and took her to a nearby house to keep her safe. Later the police came and rescued him and took him to his office. The injured Ansar member was admitted to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex. Fuel supply to the filling station has been stopped since the incident.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Debiganj Police Station Salim Malik confirmed the case and told Prothom Alo over the phone that the operation to arrest the accused is continuing.
