Boeing Thanks Bangladesh for Aircraft Order

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapur recently expressed special gratitude to Bangladesh for its decision to purchase 14 Boeing aircraft, a deal valued at $3.7 billion. Kapur delivered his remarks during a reception held Monday in Washington D.C., highlighting strengthening economic ties between the two nations as Bangladesh finalizes a significant aviation acquisition.

The appreciation follows an agreement finalized last Thursday night in Dhaka by Biman Bangladesh Airlines to acquire 14 aircraft from the American manufacturer Boeing. The deal is estimated to cost 3.7 billion U.S. dollars, equivalent to 45,408 crore Bangladeshi Taka, based on an exchange rate of 122.73 Taka per U.S. dollar.

The reception, hosted by the U.S.-Bangladesh Business Council, was organized in honor of a visiting Bangladeshi business delegation. Held on the rooftop of the historic U.S. Chamber of Commerce building in Washington D.C., the event saw Kapur discuss the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) between the U.S. and Bangladesh. He stated that the agreement has created new business opportunities, including increased access for U.S. products, and suggested that future U.S.-Bangladesh relations would help shape strategy in the Indo-Pacific region.

Among those in attendance were U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen and Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the U.S., Tareq Md. Ariful Islam, both of whom addressed the gathering. Diplomats from the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington D.C., alongside officials from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, also participated in the event, according to information from the press wing of the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington D.C.

The 25-member Bangladeshi business delegation is currently in Washington D.C. to participate in the “Select USA Investment Summit 2026,” scheduled from May 3 to May 6. The summit is expected to draw approximately 5,000 representatives from over 100 countries, including 2,700 investor businesses.
