There is no ‘public reference point’ as such to know what is the actual salary of a particular post in Bangladesh. So the job aspirants are in uncertainty and confusion about the salary structure of the organization in which they want to work. The country’s first anonymous salary transparency platform ‘Betan Keman’ has started its journey to solve this.

The main aim of the platform is to bring Bangladesh’s ‘pay transparency’ system within the reach of every job seeker. Where users can give and receive information for free without any login or identity disclosure. They will share information about their company, title, experience, salary and specific date of monthly salary here. As a result, anyone can get a clear idea about the salary by typing the name of any company.

Ishmam Chowdhury, the founder of the platform, said, “Generally, candidates enter the interview with an assumption. And “how’s the salary” turns that guess into a real number. Behind which is the experience of hundreds of people who have worked in that position before. The real cause of salary obscurity is not the embarrassing question asked at the end of the interview, but the months of people’s lives, which are lost due to lack of accurate information.’

Ishmam Chowdhury said that after the first version of this project was shared in the ‘IBA’ and ‘BBA’ communities, 223 entries were collected within a few days and it was at this time that Ryan Ehab Shams, the founder of ‘Grow Your Career’, one of the most active career communities in Bangladesh, was contacted. Currently, it is being run by Ishmam and Grow Your Career as a joint venture. Within 24 hours of the official launch on the Grow Your Career page, the initiative received a massive response with over 1,400 reactions and many comments and shares.

Ryan Ehab Shams, co-founder of Salary How and CEO of Grow Your Career, said platforms like this live on community, not code. Bangladeshi job seekers sharing their salary information to help strangers proves that people are always trusted. It just lacked asking for it properly.

Those concerned said that anonymity is considered as its main basis. As no IP or e-mail is stored it is impossible to trace the identity of any information. It will always be free for users, so that young people at the start of their careers can reap the benefits. Currently the platform has search facility in both Bengali and English language and access to benefit data like PF, gratuity, transport and festival bonus. In the coming days, there are plans to add features like ‘year-on-year salary view’ and ‘experience level bracket’.
