The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has dispatched an emergency medical team to Chittagong to evaluate the physical and psychological condition of national team cricketer Nayeem Hasan following an alleged assault by police. The board-appointed specialists, consisting of a physician and a physiotherapist, arrived at the cricketer’s residence in the city’s Bahaddarhat area on Saturday evening to assess his injuries and potential impact on his professional playing capacity.

The medical team is expected to submit a comprehensive report to the BCB president within 48 hours, detailing Nayeem’s current health status alongside recommendations for treatment, recovery time, and his eventual return to the field. According to Nayeem’s family, the medical staff have advised that the cricketer should not remain alone for the time being, citing the significant emotional distress caused by the incident.

The controversy stems from an altercation on Friday night, when Nayeem was traveling home from the airport after competing in the Dhaka Premier League. The cricketer reported that while his autorickshaw was passing through the Lalkhan Bazar area, police officers intercepted the vehicle. Nayeem alleged that after officers confiscated the driver’s documents, Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqul Islam of Khulshi Police Station and a police informant known as Sohel physically assaulted him with batons and pipes. He further claimed that he was detained and subjected to continued harassment at the police station before being released following the intervention of BCB officials.

In response to the allegations, the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has taken swift disciplinary action. SI Shafiqul Islam and Constable Md. Russell Chowdhury have been suspended, following their initial withdrawal from Khulshi Police Station to the CMP headquarters. Additionally, the CMP Commissioner confirmed that the police informant involved in the incident has been taken into custody.
