Banned Chhatra League’s human chain march in Netrakona, 2 arrested

The leaders and activists of the banned Chhatra League held a human chain and jhtika procession in Netrakona city. The incident took place in front of the district press club in Moktarpara area of the city on Tuesday morning.
At that time, the police arrested two people including Syed Al Rakib, president of Netrakona Government College Chhatra League. Later, they were arrested and sent to court in a case under the Special Powers Act.
A video of Chhatra League’s human chain and jhatika procession has been shared on the verified Facebook page of Sadar Upazila Awami League and various leaders and activists of Chhatra League. There, two BCL leaders have been condemned for their detention and their unconditional release has been demanded.
In the 1 minute 2 second video, 10 to 15 people participated in the human chain. Except for Syed Al Rakib, other leaders and activists had black masks on their faces, some had helmets on their heads. The human chain banner in the video read ‘human chain and march to demand cancellation of anti-national US agreement, misrule of BNP-Jamaat, artificial fuel crisis and mismanagement, looting, lack of democracy and withdrawal of ban imposed on Bangladesh Awami League and Chhatra League’. After finishing the human chain, the procession started.
Later, Syed Al Rakib and Md. from Bakultala area, about 100 yards away from the police press club. Two people named Sabbir were arrested. In this incident, Deputy Inspector (SI) of Netrokona Model Police Station Akmal Hossain filed a case under the Special Powers Act as a plaintiff. In the case, Syed Al Raqib is the main name of 12 people. 10 more unidentified people have been accused.
On condition of anonymity, Syed Al Rakib’s relative and a district Awami League leader complained that after the arrest, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Netrokona Model Police Station took Rakib to his room and beat him up.
In this regard, Netrakona Model Police Station OC Mohammad Al Mamun Sarkar said that the two accused were sent to jail by the court in the afternoon after showing arrest in the case filed. The operation to arrest the other accused in the case is continuing. When asked about the incident of beating Syed Al Rakib, the OC said, “It is completely falsely slandered in my name.” Not even a single flower was given.
