Rohingya Mother and Child Returned to Cox’s Bazar After Failed Border Crossing Attempt

A 25-year-old Rohingya woman and her infant daughter have been returned to the Kutupalong refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar after being apprehended while attempting to cross into India through the Durgapur border in Netrokona.

Local residents detained the pair on Monday morning in the Bhangti Bazar area of Durgapur’s Bijoypur Union. Following the detention, personnel from the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Bijoypur camp arrived at the scene to secure the mother and child before transferring them into the custody of the Durgapur police.

According to BGB Havildar Jahangir Alam, preliminary questioning revealed that the woman, a resident of the Kutupalong camp who lost her husband several months ago, was attempting to enter India illegally.

The Durgapur police station processed the mother and child following the necessary legal procedures. On Monday evening, they were escorted back to the refugee camp by a team led by Sub-Inspector Firoz Ahmed, accompanied by two female constables. Officer-in-Charge Khandaker Shaker Ahmed confirmed the transfer, noting that the identities of the pair were verified before their return.
