Bangladesh suspends police DIG Biplob Bijoy Talukder for eight-month unauthorized absence

The Bangladeshi government has suspended Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Biplob Bijoy Talukdar from the police force following an unauthorized eight-month absence from his duties at the Rajarbagh Police Telecom unit. The disciplinary order, issued under the directive of the President, was formalized through a notification signed by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Manjur Morshed Chowdhury, and published on the ministry’s website on Thursday.
According to the official notification, Talukdar has been absent from his workstation without prior authorization since October 6 of last year. Authorities have categorized his prolonged disappearance as an act of misconduct and desertion, violations punishable under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules. Consequently, his suspension has been made retroactive to the date his unauthorized absence commenced.

Talukdar, a member of the 20th BCS police cadre, began his career in 2001 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. He had reached the rank of Deputy Inspector General in 2023, just months before his tenure was interrupted by the ongoing disciplinary proceedings.
