Bangladesh Parliamentary Speaker departs for Iran to attend funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

Bangladesh’s Speaker of Parliament, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, departed Dhaka on Thursday to attend the funeral services for the late Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The Speaker left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 7:30 a.m. and is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on July 4, according to an official statement issued by the National Parliament Secretariat.
Ayatollah Khamenei, who passed away on February 28 at the age of 86, was born in Mashhad, Iran, in April 1939. His death marks the end of a pivotal era in Iranian history, characterized by his central role in the nation’s political evolution following the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Throughout his career, Khamenei held several key positions that shaped the trajectory of the Islamic Republic. He served briefly as Iran’s Minister of Defense in 1980 and assumed oversight of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) during the protracted Iran-Iraq war. Beyond his military and administrative roles, he also served as the President of Iran.
Following the death of Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989, the Assembly of Experts selected Khamenei to succeed him as the Supreme Leader of Iran, a position he held for decades until his passing.
