An endangered shy monkey was recovered from the area with injury marks on the body
The forest department has rescued a shy monkey in an injured condition in Matiranga of Khagrachari. The shy monkey was rescued from Shantipur area of Gomti Union of the upazila on the information of local residents on Tuesday night.
Matiranga forest ranger Md. Hasan said that local residents saw the shy monkey lying injured in Shantipur area. After getting information from them, the forest department rescued the shy monkey. The monkey has injury marks on its eyes and body. It was treated this Wednesday morning. He also said that the forest department office does not have the necessary environment to keep the shy monkey. So it has been shifted to Pitachhara area for safe shelter. From there it will be brought again for treatment.
Khagrachari Forest Department Divisional Officer Farid Miya told Prothom Alo, “The monkey is being treated.” We are trying our best to fix it. If healthy, it will be released in a suitable forest area.
The shy monkey is on the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Red List. It has been identified as ‘endangered’. This nocturnal animal is usually seen in the forest areas of Chittagong and Sylhet divisions.
