A three-month-old baby was killed, five members of the family injured in a lightning strike in Rangamati

A three-month-old child was killed by lightning in Sajek Union of Baghaichhari Upazila of Rangamati. Five members of the same family were injured. The incident took place in Sajek’s Vibon Rham area around four o’clock in the morning today.
The name of the deceased child is Ujjwal Chakma. He is the son of Nayan Chakma of that area. The injured persons are the child’s father Nayan Chakma, mother Reshmi Chakma, grandfather Pradeeparanjan Chakma, grandmother Mayarani Chakma, uncle Ziring Chakma and Nijhum Chakma.

Dayadhan Chakma, member of Ward No. 4 of Sajek Union Parishad confirmed the truth of the incident. He told Prothom Alo that the family members were sleeping at home. In the meantime, lightning strikes the house. The sleeping child died in this incident. Apart from this, five members of the family were injured. They have been admitted to Khagrachari Government Hospital.
Sajek Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tofazzal Hossain said that one child was killed and five others were injured in the lightning strike. The injured persons are under treatment in hospital. Necessary legal action will be taken in this case.
