A section of mass solidarity movement and Udichi demanded the arrest of those involved in the murder of Pir’s hideout in Kushtia.

Mass Solidarity Movement has expressed anger and condemnation over the attack and killing of a Pir in Filipnagar of Daulatpur Upazila of Kushtia, accusing him of blasphemy. The group demanded immediate arrest and prosecution of those involved in the incident. They hope the government will crack down on mob terrorists.

Meanwhile, a section of the Udichi artist group demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of the people involved in the murder. The top leaders of Mass Solidarity Movement and Udichi (Eksan) made this demand in a separate statement sent to the media on Saturday night.

Around 2.30 am on Saturday, ‘Pir’ Shamim Reza alias Jahangir was brutally beaten and hacked to death by attacking the Astana on charges of blasphemy in Philipnagar, Daulatpur.

In the statement sent by Dewan Abdur Rashid, Acting Chief Coordinator of Mass Solidarity Movement and Executive Coordinator Abul Hasan, the Kushtia incident was mentioned as a serious blow to the country’s public security and democratic culture. The statement urged the Home Minister to immediately arrest and investigate the people involved in the incident and bring them to justice.

In a statement, the Janasahti Andolan said the home minister stood in Parliament and announced that mob (chaos created by a disorderly group of people) culture would no longer exist. Governments must implement their promises. The current government must ensure that mob culture does not become a substitute for justice.

On the other hand, the Acting President of Udichi Artist Group Habibul Alam and General Secretary Jamshed Anwar Tapan have given a statement condemning and protesting the killings in Kushtia. It is said that the previous interim government has encouraged persecution of dissenters. Today an elected government is in power in the country. People’s expectation is that this government will strictly crack down on mob terrorists. At the same time, it will ensure the freedom of the people of all opinions and paths of the society to live with dignity and to express their opinions.
