A person on the roof of a train died after being struck by lightning in Narsingdi

A person died after lightning struck the roof of the Internagar Coastal Express train at Ghorashal in Palash upazila of Narsingdi. The incident took place when the train crossed the Ghorashal flag railway station on Sunday afternoon. After a while, the railway police recovered his body from the roof of the train when it stopped at Narsingdi railway station.

The person’s name is Sajeeb Sarkar (40). He is a resident of Fuldi village in Palashtali union of Raipura upazila of Narsingdi.

Railway police and Sajeev’s relatives said that Sajeev Sarkar was staying on the roof of compartment ‘C’ of Noakhali-bound Antnagar Coastal Express train that left the capital this afternoon. He was alone on the roof of compartment ‘C’ although more people stayed on the roof of the adjacent compartments in the storm. At around five in the afternoon when the train was crossing the Ghorashal flag railway station, lightning struck him. He died on the spot.

According to the police, the train stopped at Narsingdi railway station around 5:30 pm. The police of Narsingdi railway outpost recovered his body from the roof of the train after receiving information from the people on the roof of the adjacent coaches. After the rescue, the family members of the person came to the outpost and identified his body.

Narsingdi Railway Outpost Sub-Inspector Dilip Chandra Sarkar said that the person named Sajib died due to lightning on the roof of the ‘C’ compartment of the Coastal Express. Following the family’s request, the process of handing over his body is underway without post-mortem.
