532 people died in road accidents in March

In the month of March, 576 road accidents occurred across the country. 532 people were killed and 2 thousand 221 people were injured in these accidents. 66 women and 98 children among the dead. During this period 12 people were killed, 27 injured and 3 missing in 14 shipping accidents. During the same period, 67 people were killed and 224 injured in 48 railway accidents.

The Road Safety Foundation has given this information in a report sent to the media on Saturday morning. They said that the report has been prepared on the basis of 9 national dailies, 17 national and regional online news portals, various electronic media and own information.

The vehicle-wise casualty figures show- motorcyclist and passenger 204, bus passenger 45, truck-pickup-tractor 28, privatecar-microbus 46, three-wheeler (easybike-CNG-autorickshaw-autovan-Laguna) 94, locally made vehicle (Nasiman-Pakhivan-Bhavati-Tomtom-Mahindra) 23 people and 13 cyclists were killed.

According to the Road Safety Foundation’s monitoring and analysis, 171 of the accidents occurred on national highways, 264 on regional roads, 70 on rural roads, 62 on city roads and 9 at other locations. Among the accidents, 166 were head-on collisions, 231 were due to loss of control, 86 were hit or run over pedestrians, 82 were rear-end collisions and 11 were due to other causes.

The number of vehicles involved in the accident is 1 thousand 8. Among them 133 buses, 120 trucks, 37 covered vans, 41 pickups, 16 tractors, 6 trolleys, 7 lorries, 16 drum trucks, 3 hand trolleys, 2 tourist jeeps, 19 microbuses, 42 private cars.

137 people were killed in the most 126 accidents in Dhaka division. 26 people were killed in the least 27 accidents in Sylhet division. 28 people were killed and 69 injured in 46 accidents in the capital Dhaka.

Before this, an average of 15.42 people were killed in road accidents in the month of February. An average of 17.16 people were killed every day in March. As a result, the death toll in road accidents has increased by 11.28 percent. Most of the accidents happen due to excessive speed and loss of control of the vehicle.

According to the Road Safety Foundation, the main causes of road accidents include faulty vehicles, faulty roads, reckless speed, reckless driver mentality, inefficiency and physical and mental illness. In addition, speed control technology requires monitoring and motivational training of drivers.
