5 cows were stolen from the herd by chaining the door of the expatriate’s house in Joypurhat

The cowshed is full of bought grass, but not a single cow. Five cows were stolen in one night. Thieves chain the door from outside so that the family members cannot go out. Such a theft took place at the house of an expatriate in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat on Monday night.

According to local and police sources, his wife was rearing eight cows in the house of Mohsin Ali, a Saudi expatriate, in Sushristi village of Gopinathpur union of Akkelpur upazila. Three cows were sold in the market two weeks ago. A bull and four heifers were tied up in the cowshed on Monday. Grass is bought and kept in advance for feeding the next day. However, on Tuesday morning, the family members found that all the five cows in the cowshed had been stolen.

Local people believe that the thieves entered the house by climbing over the wall in a planned manner. Later they cut the lock of the main gate and entered the cowshed and took away the cows. At this time, the door of the house was chained from outside to keep the family members.

Mohsin Ali’s mother Monowara Begum said that the price of the five stolen cows was around four lakh taka. His son’s wife and grandchildren live in the house. Monday night they fell asleep after eating. Mohsin’s wife opened the door this morning and found it chained from outside. The main gate of the house was also open. Later, neighbors came and opened the door when they shouted through the window. He came out and saw that there was not even a cow in the barn.

Neighbor Sanwar Hossain said that there are occasional cases of cow theft in the area. It is necessary to quickly identify the thieves and bring them to book as well as take effective steps to prevent such incidents.

Akkelpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shaheen Reza told Prothom Alo that the police visited the scene on Tuesday morning. The victim’s family members went out to look for cows. No case has been filed in the police station yet.
