The Ministry of Power, Energy, Mineral Resources has said that power generation has decreased due to energy crisis. They say that today Thursday the maximum demand is 17 thousand megawatts. At the same time, 14 thousand megawatts of electricity can be produced. This may lead to a shortfall in electricity supply of 3,000 megawatts. Load shedding should be done to meet this deficiency.

This information was given in a press conference organized by the Electricity Department in the meeting room of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. It is said that the electricity demand on Wednesday was 15 thousand 767 megawatts. The supply was 13 thousand 681 MW. That means, there was load shedding like 2 thousand 86 MW.

The press conference was held by the Joint Secretary of the Electricity Department Umme Rehana. In response to a question related to the shortage of energy, he said that there is a lot of power generation capacity, but due to shortage of gas and fuel, it is not being produced. Yesterday, 5 thousand 274 megawatts of electricity was produced using gas. Although the production capacity is 12 thousand 154 MW; That is, less than half has been produced due to scarcity of gas. Due to the war situation in the Middle East, the fuel supply is being disrupted.

According to the power department, 200 crore cubic feet of supply per day is required to utilize the full capacity of gas-fired power. If 120 crore cubic feet of gas is also supplied, then 7,200 MW of electricity could be produced. But gas supply is 85 to 90 crore cubic feet. Less expensive furnace oil and diesel are used in power generation to save production costs.
