From zero point in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf to Tentulia in Panchagarh, four young people embarked on a challenging journey of over a thousand kilometers on foot and by bicycle. On the seventh day of this journey, they reached Comilla on Monday evening. After spending the night in Comilla Nagar, they started their journey again on Tuesday morning.

Three of these four youths are running and the other is running with them on a bicycle. They say that they are working to spread awareness for environment protection, women’s education and child health in this journey which started from the zero point of Teknaf in Cox’s Bazar at 4 am on April 21. Besides spreading the message of awareness along the way, they want to set a new record of running from Teknaf to Tentulia in the fastest time. One of the biggest challenges of the youth in this long journey is going to be swimming across the four and a half kilometers of the Yamuna river.

The four youths involved in the raid are Asiful Haque (Pavel) of Noakhali, Ehsanul Haque (Sani) of Tangail, Asif Akbar of Panchgarh and Mohammad Abdullah of Cox’s Bazar. Among them, Mohammad Abdullah is on a bicycle and the other three are running. Asiful Haque is leading the team. Their aim is to reach Tentulia from Teknaf in just 18 days. These indomitable youngsters are marching forward by covering 55 to 60 kilometers every day.

Talking to the four young people, it is known that this journey will become a tough test of their physical ability and mental strength. The main theme of the campaign has been set as ‘If nature lives, the country will live, women’s education and children’s health will be victorious’. They are taking breaks at least 15 times on the journey every day. At every place they are making people aware about environment, nature, women’s education and children’s health. Besides, people are being encouraged to protect the environment by not littering everywhere.

It is said that apart from the social message, another goal of these runners is to prepare themselves for future ‘Ironman’ competitions. Opsonin Pharma Limited is the title sponsor of this challenge. Apart from this, Wave Lifestyle, Brothers United Club, Travelgraph, Bairag Munshi Security Service Limited, Wire Collects and Run for Bangladesh are some organizations that are cooperating.

Asiful Haque told Prothom Alo, “Until now, Mohammad Shamsuzzaman Arafat had run away from Teknaf. He set a record by running from Teknaf to Tentulia in 20 days in 2017. We have taken up the challenge to set a new record by crossing in 18 days. In the meantime, we are far ahead of what we have planned. He said, “We expect to be in Dhaka tomorrow, Wednesday.” We have to cover 55 to 60 km every day. In the meantime we are running more than 60 km every day.

Asiful Haque said that every night they stay at a hotel or at the residence of well-wishers of various running organizations. And if that is not possible, they spend the night by pulling the tent.

Regarding crossing the Yamuna river by swimming, Asiful Haque said, Yamuna Bridge and Padma Bridge cannot be reached on foot or by bicycle. For this they have to swim across the Yamuna. Of course, there will be boats on the side for their safety throughout the river. They hope to be able to swim across the Yamuna river on the 12th or 13th day of the journey.

Another young man, Ehsanul Haque, told Prothom Alo, “Even though the destination is still far away, whatever obstacles come, we will stop as soon as we touch the soil of tamarind.”
