2 brothers drowned in the pond while taking a bath in Joypurhat

In Panchbibi Upazila of Joypurhat, two schoolboys died tragically after drowning in the water of the pond. The accident took place in Majhina village of Atapur union of the upazila on the afternoon of April 22. This incident cast a shadow of mourning on the entire area.

The two children who died are Hussain (11) and Rahmat (8). They are from Majhina village. Son of Enamul Haque. Hussain studied in the fifth grade of the local Majhina Government Primary School and Rahmat in the third grade of the same school.

According to local and family sources, the two brothers returned home after school holidays on Wednesday. Later they went to bathe in a pond near the house with four classmates. Hossain and Rahmat accidentally drowned in the bath at one stage. Cousin Al Imran, who was with them, after a while did not see the two brothers and shouted and informed the family members. Later local people along with father Enamul Haque quickly went down to the pond and started searching. After much searching, two brothers were rescued from under the water.

After the rescue, they were taken to the Hakimpur Upazila Health Complex in Dinajpur after water was removed from their stomachs. There the doctor declared both dead.

Mithu Sarkar, Medical Officer of the Emergency Department of Hakimpur Upazila Health Complex, said that two children died before they were brought to the hospital.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafiz Md of Panchbibi police station. Raihan told Prothom Alo at eight o’clock at night that two brothers died after drowning in Majhina village. Police were dispatched to the scene. As there was no complaint, the body was handed over to the family.
