West Bengal police have arrested an event manager associated with Tollywood actress Srabanti Chatterjee following allegations of rape. The suspect, identified as Arghya, was taken into custody on Sunday from Harar Sasthitala, sparking widespread controversy and intense scrutiny within the Bengali film industry and across social media platforms.

According to police reports, the incident stems from an accusation filed by a woman who worked at the same event management firm as the suspect. The victim alleged that on April 12, she visited Arghya’s residence for work-related purposes, where he subsequently assaulted her. A formal criminal complaint was lodged at Chatterjeehat Police Station on June 12, leading to a police investigation that culminated in Sunday’s arrest.

The actress addressed the situation through a statement on her official Instagram account, distancing herself from the accused. Chatterjee explained that she had been working with Arghya through the event management agency ‘Talentwala’ since early 2024 to coordinate her professional schedule and events. She expressed deep discomfort regarding the allegations, emphasizing that she had no prior knowledge of his personal conduct. Chatterjee confirmed that she has severed all professional ties with the individual and has formally notified the management agency of her decision to end their association.

The suspect appeared before a Howrah court on Monday, where he was formally charged under several non-bailable sections of the law. The court has remanded him to judicial custody for 14 days as the investigation continues.
