Shakira Draws 2 Million Fans for Career-Defining Concert

Colombian pop superstar Shakira drew an estimated two million fans to Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Copacabana Beach on Saturday for a massive free concert, marking the largest show of her career and injecting an estimated $161.4 million into the city’s economy.
The historic beachfront, a major tourist attraction, transformed into a sprawling open-air venue for the “mega show,” which Rio City officials confirmed set a new attendance record for the artist. The event followed similar high-profile performances by global icons such as Madonna and Lady Gaga in front of the legendary Copacabana Palace hotel.
City officials estimated the concert’s significant economic contribution, which primarily benefited local hotels, restaurants, transportation services, and retailers, aligning with efforts to boost tourism during the month of May.
The spectacle commenced with a drone display illuminating the sky with Shakira’s famous moniker, “She Wolf.” Stepping onto the stage, the 49-year-old singer greeted the audience in Portuguese, declaring, “Brazil, I love you. It is truly magical to see millions of souls unite to sing, to dance, and to remember what is truly important to the world.”
Shakira enthralled the crowd with a medley of her chart-topping hits, including “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Antología,” and the 2010 World Cup theme song, “Waka Waka.” She was joined on stage by a constellation of popular Brazilian stars, including Anitta, Caetano Veloso, Maria Bethânia, and Ivete Sangalo, for powerful duet performances.
Following the immense success of the “Todo Mundo No Rio” festival, the Rio de Janeiro administration has decided to make it an official fixture on the city’s event calendar until at least 2028.
