Police Arrest Actor Don in Connection with Salman Shah Murder Case

DHAKA — Police have arrested actor Ashraful Haque, widely known as Don, in connection with the decades-old murder case of popular Bangladeshi film star Salman Shah. The arrest took place on Sunday afternoon at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Salman Shah, who was at the peak of his career, died under mysterious circumstances on September 6, 1996. While initial investigations suggested suicide, his family has consistently maintained that he was murdered. Following the arrest of the actor, the victim’s mother, Nila Chowdhury, expressed relief while reiterating her long-standing allegations against the suspect.

Chowdhury stated that the suspect has been deeply involved in the events surrounding her son’s death and accused him of disparaging her and spreading falsehoods about the late actor in the years following the tragedy. She further emphasized her trust in the current government and expressed hope that all individuals implicated in the case would eventually be brought to justice.

The murder case includes 11 accused individuals. In addition to Ashraful Haque, the list of suspects features Samira Haque, Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Latifa Haque Lucy, David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby of Mefia Beauty Center, Abdus Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed Farhad.

Despite the passage of time, the case remains a subject of significant public and legal interest in Bangladesh. The arrest marks a notable development in the long-running pursuit of justice for the late actor’s family.
