Pakistan to Build State-of-the-Art Punjab Film City

The Punjab government has announced plans to construct a sprawling 50-acre “Film City” in Lahore, a landmark initiative aimed at cultivating local talent, creating thousands of jobs, and transforming the province into a global nexus for creative industries. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz unveiled the ambitious project, noting it is the first of its kind in Punjab’s history.
Nawaz made the announcement on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The project, conceived approximately two years ago, finalized its “end-to-end content creation pipeline” design after extensive consultations with Pakistani filmmakers, producers, and actors, ensuring a self-sufficient creative ecosystem.

The comprehensive project is set to include world-class studios and state-of-the-art sound stages, equipped with modern amenities. It will also feature advanced laboratories dedicated to visual effects (VFX) and post-production.
Additionally, the Film City will host an integrated media trade hub, a school for film and music education, and essential emergency security infrastructure. A dedicated entertainment district is also planned, designed to inject new dynamism into the nation’s creative arts.

In her statement, Chief Minister Nawaz affirmed, “This initiative will empower our local talent, create thousands of jobs, and establish Pakistan as a prominent hub of creativity on the global stage.”
She added that the Film City would be “a special gift for the younger generation,” envisioning it as a place “where their dreams will take flight and Pakistan’s true and vibrant identity will be showcased to the world.”
Chief Minister Nawaz highlighted her broader objective of transforming Punjab into a global destination for technology, innovation, heritage, and culture, stating that the Film City represents a significant stride towards achieving that ambitious goal.
